Advanced Fingerstyle Guitar – Anytime I want to 'kick it up a notch' during my shows I pull out one of these tunes. You'll not only learn songs by Doc Watson and Gary Davis, but for the first time I'll be making some of my own songs and arrangements available. Finally, you'll learn a song that was taught to me by the late Eugene Powell of Greenville MS.

Deep River Blues - Doc Watson: The first time I ever heard Doc Watson was on an old Folkways Album. Doc recorded this piece and ever since then I've been a dedicated fingerpicker. It's chock full of nice ideas. Listen!
Cincinnati Flow Rag: Gary Davis of N. Carolina was another big influence on my playing. Here's my arrangement of this jaw dropping song. It's a piece that I include in many of my shows and have recorded on my 'Live At The Bottleneck' CD. Listen
Mississippi Blues - Willie Brown: Probably one of the prettiest pieces I play in the Key of A. I wind up using the licks from this song in many others during my performances.
Hacksaw Rag - Eugene Powell: I learned this rag directly from Eugene himself in Greenville MS. Eugene hung out and recorded with the MS Sheiks, Bo Carter and Lonnie Chapman. He was one of the finest bluesmen I ever learned from. This piece will show you why. Listen
Swing Bean: I recorded this piece on my 'Cool Hand' CD and ever since it's been one of the most requested instrumentals at my shows. It's a real challenge with lots of hot licks and swing chords in the key of A.
Irish Fiddle Medley - Red Haired Boy - And now for something a little different. Years ago I took a fiddle song and created an arrangement for it. I recorded this on my 'Little Toby Walker' CD and it offers up some nice challenging finger work.
Ain't Misbehavin' - Fats Waller: I always wanted to arrange a Fats Waller song so here it is. Sort of like a jazz chord melody tune with alternating bass thrown in. Listen
Sweet Georgia Brown: Another old time jazz classic. This one will be sure to tickle your fingers as well as give you some new ideas. Listen
Turner's Retreat - Toby Walker: I wrote this slide piece in open D tuning while thinking about my experiences with the late Turner Foddrell of VA. I spent an afternoon with him studying his amazing piedmont fingerpicking. I recorded this on my 'Plays Well With Others' CD.
Pine Top Shuffle - Toby Walker : This started out as an exercise in what I could come up with in drop D tuning. It's full of moving bass lines and melodys in a shuffle feel. A true challenge!
