__The Secrets:
Inside Toby Walker's Guitar
The Drop D Ending

Picture
This is Toby Walker's guitar speaking to you now.
That's right, that's me below. Dennis MacPherson built me for Toby.

I've decided to spill my gut strings and let you know all the little secrets of his playing that he's been keeping from you all these years.
Here's one of his secret little licks. Every now and then I'll be adding another one so stay 'tuned.'

Here's The Secret:
The Drop D Ending - Video - Tab

This is a little lick that you can end any blues song you already play in Drop D tuning. Click on the links and enjoy.

There's more licks below

A snappy little lick in E

You can use this lick as a flashy ending to a song or slow it down and insert it into a shuffle. I'll show you how to do both.

Another lick in Drop D

I used this lick in my arrangement of 'Angeline the Baker.'

 Etta Baker's 'One Dime Blues'

Picture
Back in '93 I had the pleasure of visiting Etta Baker at her home in Morganton NC. That's where she taught me her version of 'One Dime Blues' which she learned from her uncle when she was very young. Here's the tab, music and instructional audio.

Using G sus tuning

This is the tuning I use in my arrangement of Blind Willie Johnson's 'Nobody's Fault But Mine.'

Bonus lick from Homespun Tapes

Picture
Happy Traum of Homespun Tapes just released this clip of me demonstrating a quick, cool lick that you can download:

This was done during the taping of my new DVD - 'Fingerpicking Hank Williams' due out in May.

Enjoy
