2016 Waterloo WL-Jk

Several years ago Bill Collings of Collings Guitars in Austin, Texas had a great idea. Why not build a line of guitars based on those inexpensive models that were produced back in the 20's and 30's? This was the beginning of what was to become the Waterloo guitar line.

Their flagship model was a WL-14 which with either X bracing or ladder bracing. It was so successful that Collings decided to follow it up with a Jumbo model, also available with two bracing choices. The one that I'm showing off here - that I purchased from the Music Emporium in MA -  is the WL-JK, an X braced  Jumbo size guitar with a big sound!

By they way, I also teach this song.

You can find the specs for this guitar at the bottom of this page.

The first large-boded guitar in the Waterloo lineup has a big, chunky sound (to match its big, chunky neck) well suited to strummers and fingerpickers into old-time and traditional styles of music. The voice is dry and woody, with a powerful fundamental and decay reminiscent of a broken-in old guitar. Inspired by the old Recording King jumbos that utilized a 5" deep body to project powerfully enough for radio and studio work, the Waterloo Jumbo King makes a fantastic jumbo-style guitar for players craving retro style and sound with the outstanding worksmanship and playability we've all come to expect from the Waterloo workshop.
