From a satisfied student:
"I just wanted to express my appreciation for you and how much you've helped me. When I started with you I enjoyed playing but I felt limited in where I could go. I could learn new pieces which were fun but I wanted more. I expressed to you my desires in terms of finger style improvisation and later more specific things and you had an encyclopedia of answers and techniques. When I play and practice those things that you taught I now feel like I can go off exploring down many paths. I am starting to be able to improvise on different types of pieces with modes, inversions and other things that I think sound good. I am making little discoveries on my own because of the building blocks you gave me. I can now play for hours without getting bored. There aren't many paths available for this learning and I am truly thankful for hooking up with you."
Rob - Long Island NY
No matter where I am, be it at a little bar, concert hall or festival, someone usually asks me 'Gee, how'd you do that?' Thats when I get all giddy and grab the nearest guitar to show them a cool lick. Next to performing, teaching is another one of my great passions. Nothing thrills me more than seeing the 'light switch go on' when I turn a student on to a new lick, song, or way of understanding something. My motto is 'Whatever I know, I'll teach.' The late Eugene Powell, a fantastic bluesman from Mississippi once told me to 'carry the blues on for him' and I mean to do just that. He was very generous in teaching me and I feel honored to do carry on that tradition.
I give lessons out of my home on available weeknights.
I teach the following styles from beginning to advanced levels:
Acoustic Fingerstyle Blues.... styles range from Mississippi Delta to East Coast Piedmont
Acoustic Fingerstyle Ragtime.... covering Blind Blake, Blind Boy Fuller, Gary Davis and others
Bottleneck Slide Guitar
Improvising Lead While Playing Bass
Electric Blues Improvisation
Music Theory
