Sixty One Highway Workshop
First off, thanks so much for taking this workshop. I hope you received as much pleasure participating in it as much as I have!!
Below you'll see an instructional video that was produced by Dream Guitars. In that video, I demonstrate how to play '61 Highway.' I've also uploaded some files (.pdf - tab, and .mp3 - sound) for you to download.
This song was taught to me by James 'Son' Thomas during one of my visits to his home in Leland MS, in the early 90's. I've transcribed it basically from memory, but I think it's pretty close to the way he showed it to me. Besides, I doubt if he played it exactly the same way twice.
I've also added some additional licks and ideas so that you could be creative with the song. After all, every single person that I studied from had their own style of playing, which I think is due to the creative way that they expressed themselves. Hopefully, with some practice, you'll do the same.
If you'd like to read more about my visits with Son, as well as listening to some of the recordings I made of him during one of those visits, then please visit this page: James Son Thomas.
Additionally, you may want to check out the various other lessons I have to offer. You can do that by clicking on the link Guitar Lessons up above in the menu.
