When You Got A Good friend
- Robert Johnson

Picture
It has been said that Robert Johnson was a master at pulling out some of the best ideas of the musicians of his time and adapting them to his own playing, and "When You Got A Good Friend" is a striking example of this. Johnson uses a shuffle rhythm which was copied directly from the many blues piano players of the day and recorded by very few other guitarists. What makes it incredible is his use of triplets above that shuffle bass lick which, while piano players did all the time, to play it on the guitar back then was groundbreaking. Johnson's use of his intro, turnarounds and ending was also very unique.

All of these licks, which I transcribed note for note from Johnson's first take are here.

ADDITIONALLY --  you'll expand on this song with the ton of additional licks and phrases which I'll also show you. This will move you beyond just copying the song to someone who can be creative with it as well, which will ultimately improve your overall playing and musicianship.

What will I show you?
• How to use common tones in chords to add variety.
• 'Open Note Transportation' - seamlessly playing across the fingerboard.
• Getting the most out of diminished, 6th and 9th chords.
• Using triplets in your solos.
And much more.
