Recording with Bob Margolin - High Point, NC and being interviewed for Blues Wax magazine.
This was during the recording of 'Toby Walker Plays Well With Others.
The whole idea of it was to get together with a bunch of incredible musicians I loved and just let it all go... jam away on some songs that I wrote.
One of those musicians was Bob Margolin, an superb electric blues guitarist. For several years Bob was Muddy Water's guitarist and together they recorded some of the best blues around.
So I called Bob up and asked him if he wanted to be on this album. He said sure, as long as I was willing to come over to his house in North Carolina. We could either do it in a studio or in his living room. Well, I was all for doing some live stuff in his home so that's just what we did.

Bob on his 1930 Gibson, playing 'Beefsteak When I'm Hungry.' Bob told me that guitar was as old as Pinetop Perkins, the piano player Muddy Waters used for years, adding that the strings may have been just as old. Bob also mentioned that Pinetop played that very same guitar earlier that year when he was visiting Bob.
We recorded 3 cuts for the CD that day. Each of those songs were either the first or second takes. Here's how they came out.
On 'Beefsteak' Bob's playing slide on his '30 Gibson L-00. On the other songs Bob's using his Gibson gold top Les Paul. I'm playing my '90 Martin 000-16.
Mark Williams, the engineer for the session. He did a fantastic job!

You can find those songs, and others in which I'm playing with quite a few top shelf musicians, on my CD called 'Plays Well With Others.'
A few months later I was on the bill with Bob and his band - which consisted of members from the late Muddy Waters band. After my set, Bob asked me to come up and join his band for the rest of the evening. I can't begin to tell you how much fun that was, playing alongside Pinetop Perkins, Willie 'Big Eyes' Smith, and of course Bob. It's a rare peek at me playing electric as well.
